Franco-Congolese Nurse | Public Health Advocate | Humanitarian Leader | Specialist in Ethics and Nursing Care
Gislene Ursula Makosso is a distinguished Franco-Congolese nurse, humanitarian leader, and public health advocate whose career reflects an unwavering commitment to improving healthcare access and empowering vulnerable communities across Africa and Europe.
As the Founder and President of the Anatole Collinet Makosso NGO, she dedicates her efforts to promoting maternal and child health, strengthening healthcare systems, and advancing community well-being. Through her organization, she coordinates international medical solidarity missions, bringing together healthcare professionals, including colleagues from the Rouen University Hospital (CHU de Rouen) in Normandy, France, to provide essential healthcare services and capacity-building initiatives in the Republic of Congo.
Specialized in the management and treatment of tropical diseases such as malaria and typhoid fever, Gislene has earned recognition for her outstanding dedication to public health. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she distinguished herself through her tireless support for disadvantaged families, providing healthcare guidance, humanitarian assistance, and critical support to those most affected by the crisis.
Today, she serves as a Health Coordinator within the decentralized cooperation and twinning partnership between the cities of Pointe-Noire (Republic of Congo) and Le Havre (France). In this role, she actively promotes international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and healthcare development initiatives that strengthen ties between African and European institutions.
Driven by a profound commitment to ethical healthcare practices and human dignity, Gislene holds a State Diploma in Nursing and a Master’s Degree in Ethics and Nursing Care from the Catholic University of Lille, where she successfully completed a research dissertation focused on ethical challenges in nursing practice.
Her professional journey includes service at the Intercommunal Hospital Center of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, followed by her appointment as a tenured civil servant at the Rouen University Hospital, where she continues to contribute her expertise in patient care, healthcare coordination, and public health management.
A passionate advocate for women’s health and empowerment, she leads awareness campaigns among women of the African diaspora, focusing on maternal health, child health, preventive care, and health education. She firmly believes that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental pillar of women’s empowerment and sustainable development.
In 2026, she is spearheading a major humanitarian initiative to provide free screening and diagnosis for diabetes and hypertension in Pointe-Noire and Oyo, helping to combat the growing burden of non-communicable diseases in the Republic of Congo.
A visionary leader, Gislene also plans to establish a specialized healthcare facility in Congo dedicated to supporting women who are victims of domestic violence, abuse, and sexual assault. This ambitious project aims to provide comprehensive medical, psychological, and social care while restoring dignity and hope to vulnerable women.
For Gislene Ursula Makosso, healthcare is far more than a profession—it is a powerful tool for social transformation, justice, and sustainable development. Her leadership, compassion, and dedication continue to inspire positive change and contribute to building a healthier and more equitable Africa.
“A healthy woman is a key driver of Africa’s development.”
